The Big Issue!

Weight loss is something that most people struggle with. Whether its finding times to exercise, learning how to exercise right, or figuring out what you should eat, our lives usually focus around our weight. And it doesn't help that the media are constantly throwing weight loss in our faces.
Celebrity Fit Club was a hilarious show! It does not air anymore, but the focus was washed up celebrities attempting to lose weight. These celebrities definitely show themselves on this show! They become belligerent and intolerable at some points. Most of them do not really take this show serious but rather see it as a come back.
Another interesting weight loss show is a newer show on MTV called I Used To Be Fat. I don't know how many of you all have seen this show but its kind of like MTV's Made, but its all about making obese kids skinnier. Most of the kids on the show were fat all through  high school and did not have much of a social life because of their obesity problem. They decide to make it their goal to be a new person before they start college. I think that this show is kind of motivating for the teenagers of this generation. Obesity is a major issue to them so therefore it shows them that losing weight is possible.
What do guys think? How do you feel about Weight loss shows?

  1. I agree when you say that some of the celebrities on Celebrity Fit Club just used the show to start their career again. I use to watch it on those lazy Sunday's when I had nothing else to do. This new television show sounds interesting. MTV likes doing these types of shows. Personally, weight loss shows, unless they are taken seriously, are pointless.

  2. I think that if MTV keeps I Used To Be Fat as an educational, uplifting and inspiring show, this could be good for teens. But if they allow it to turn into another drama filled mess like most of the other shows, it will be worthless.

With the nations issue with obesity, I think its smart to begin targeting teens to inform them and help them realize that they have to take care of themselves.

  3. The biggest loser-type shows are generally in poor taste and insensitive, but they DO draw attention to the rampant obesity issue -- and perhaps inspire some people to undertake their own weight-loss project.

  4. This blog gives me some ideas for a speech I am doing in Argumentation and Debate. I am doing the positive and negative sides of reality tv.
